M04 – How Do I Provide Comprehensible Input in Synchronous Online Sessions? (June 23-25)

As we continue our exploration of comprehensible input strategies and techniques, we now direct our attention to “checking for understanding”. Checking for understanding plays an important role in providing teachers and students timely, useful feedback on the effectiveness of comprehensible input strategies. On the first day of this module, Professor Guillaume will work with us to identify and apply evidence-based feedback in support of our peers’ and students’ growth. It will be important for you to download and print out our Feedback Form prior to our June 23 session. We will be using this form throughout the session. We’ll use this session experience to complete our written peer feedback on our microteaching experience as well as our Think Aloud reflection on that microteaching experience. We’ll augment the tools and strategies Bobby shared previously with us for using images and realia in synchronous online environments, and take a look at how we and our students can make effective use of online learning platforms to check for student learning. Finally, in anticipation of our last web conference on June 29 with Laura Terrill, we have provided the option for you to begin work on a learning activity you can share for feedback from Laura, your co-instructors and your peers.
