Dr. Jennifer Eddy is a tenured Assistant Professor of World Language Education at Queens College, City University of New York. For 25 years, Dr. Eddy has taught undergraduate and graduate courses for teacher certification and has directed seminars for university and high school faculty on curriculum and assessment design. Her research focuses on performance assessment, transfer and intercultural competence in articulated curriculum design.

In 2004, Dr. Eddy developed the framework Uncovering Curriculum: Assessment Design Articulating Performance and Transfer (UC:ADAPT), integrating Backward Design/UbD with the 5Cs/World Readiness Standards. This design uses overarching Intercultural Perspectives to unfold thematic curriculum with performance assessment for vertical articulation.  Schools and universities have implemented this design for language departments and teacher education programs.

Dr. Eddy authored Sonidos, Sabores, Y Palabras (2006, Heinle/Cengage), the first book using songs as culturally authentic material within a backward design framework, featuring tasks in the three modes of communication. Dr. Eddy’s work is featured in the NCLRC publication, Teaching World Languages: A practical Guide (2014), JNCOLCTL (2015), and in the NECTFL volume on Intercultural Competence (2017). Most recently, she wrote the curriculum guide for the New York City Department of Education. Currently, she is Project Director for the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) Initiative on Standards revision and professional development for World Language teachers.
