4.2 Check for Understanding

We explore an important concept in teaching synchronous sessions: Checking for Understanding.  You’ll read and view example demonstrations and advice from teachers.  You will then take a short quiz to check your understanding of what you’ve learned in this section. Before 11:59 pm on Friday, June 26

4.3 Tools and Techniques for Checking for Understanding in Synchronous Teaching

We’ll watch a a video created especially for our course that discusses and demonstrates techniques for web conferencing that can help you to check for understanding.  Then, you’ll reflect on what you’ve learned using a new, web-based polling tool that you can use to check for understanding, especially in live sessions.

4.4 Opportunities to Check for UnderstandingListen to professor Ed Dixon talk about how he uses synchronous teaching in his online course to check for understanding. You’ll then share your opinions of two specific techniques he uses.

4.5 Checking for Understanding Swap Shop
In this full course forum, you’ll share an idea you have for checking for understanding and in turn, you’ll have access to a wealth of ideas from your colleagues!

Having completed Stages 1-2 of the Student Lesson Template, you’ll work on Stage 3 in this section, and get feedback from your peers.Part 1: Before 11:59 pm on Friday, June 26.

Looking Ahead

June 29-July 1 : Module 5  – You will have arranged one meeting time with your PMG colleagues to conduct your 10-minute Peer Microteaching Activity, which must be completed before 11:59 pm on Wednesday, July 1.  You willl all teach your mini-lesson during the same hour.  Please do not attempt to arrange separate meetings for each 10-minute microteaching session.  

July 2-5: Module 6 – Following your Peer Microteaching activity, you will record a Think Aloud using Screencast-O-Matic to submit before 11:59 on Sunday, July 5

Our next live, synchronous session will take place on Monday, July 6 at 3:30 pm PT / 5:30 pm CT / 6:30 pm ET with Barbara and Bobby to prepare you for the following week when you will use Adobe Connect with the CSUSB students. During this session, we will review the major topics of this course.
