4.3 – Asynchronous teaching and feedback

This assignment was locked Jul 17, 2018 at 11:59pm.

As noted at the end of Module 3, for this assignment, you are going to design, record, and post a short (10 minute) learning episode for novice learners of your language. As you design your lesson, you are encouraged to review the content and resource materials from Module 3, as well as your reflections from the asynchronous lessons you watched to help you design a lesson that includes:

  1. a clear learning target that is appropriate for novice language learners
  2. comprehensible input that is in the target language (at least 90%) and supported with strategies such as visuals, gestures, etc.
  3. checks for understanding to help the learner process the material and confirm their own understanding and progress towards the learning target.

You will want to use a tool such as Screencast-0-Matic to record your lesson. This tool is the one used for the French and Arabic sample asynchronous lessons in Module 3. As you saw, it shows the teacher’s screen and also can include a webcam video of the speaker. Here is a tutorial on using Screencast-0-Matic and sharing the video when you are finished (Links to an external site.).

When you have finished recording your lesson, get a shareable link to it (either by uploading it to screencast-0-matic.com or sharing it to YouTube, if you have a YouTube channel–both options are available directly from your screencast-0-matic account when you are finished with your video).

You will share your work in this topic in Flipgrid (Links to an external site.). This Flipgrid submission will be a little bit different. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Go to this topic in Flipgrid (Links to an external site.)
  2.  (Links to an external site.)Record a short introduction to your lesson to accompany your post. In this introduction, you will prepare us to view your lesson by telling us what the learning target is, what students would normally have already learned before this lesson, and what you would like us to watch for.
  3. Then, after you have finished the recording and taken your picture, Flipgrid gives you the option to add a link/URL. Paste the link from your Screencast-O-matic.com or Youtube recording.

Remember that the password for FlipGrid is CLASSROAD18 (typed just as you see it: all capital letters, no spaces or punctuation).

In the next activity, you will be returning to this topic in FlipGrid to give feedback to TWO other participants.
